WHY I CHOSE FULL-SERVICE BOUTIQUE PHOTOGRAPHY

Today I would like to share with you a little about the backstory of how I chose the boutique portrait studio style as my business model. It is one of the most important reasons I chose to be a boutique photographer my story is very personal and meaningful.

If you aren't yet aware, I am a very different kind of photographer. In this era of digital photography, I have chosen to serve my clients in a very specialized and highly personalized way. My studio focuses on creating captivating art of the precious, once-in-a-lifetime moments in my client's lives and turning those memories into gorgeous fine art prints and albums that will be loved and treasured from generation to generation. Let me share with you the deeply personal and very important reason why I specifically chose this unique model to best serve all of my clients.

Growing up my family's walls were always graced with beautiful, professionally photographed family and individual portraits. Not only were there images of my family, but my mom also displayed generational portraits of my grandparents and great-grandparents. There were always beautiful collages of portraiture hanging on our walls and lots of family photo albums to explore celebrating so many precious memories in the life of our family. But the thing is, we were not a wealthy family and as a result I know my parents had to specifically budget for and prioritize these professional portrait sessions over the years. My mom was the driving force to make these sessions happen and, while I'll be the first to admit we all moaned and groaned about these sessions, as an adult looking back I am so thankful my parents sacrificed to have these treasures created.

However it wasn't until very recently that the true, incalculable value of those portraits really became understood. You see, my precious and sweet mother has dementia. Her disease has reached the point where she is struggling to remember so much and it is so heartbreaking to witness her decline. But there was one particular day I will never forget in our journey with my mother and her disease that impacted me forever and guided the direction my photography was to take. It was the day we moved my parents from their new home to their assisted living home. This day was particularly difficult for my mom because she really didn't understand what was happening and she was feeling anxious and a little distraught. Prior to their moving day, my siblings and I had taken time to get their new home set up in the most familiar and comfortable way possible to help with their transition. When the day came to show them their new home and my mom saw so many of our treasured family portraits hanging on the walls and throughout the rooms, right away she began to feel more at ease and less anxious. Sadly however, not long after we moved my parents, my father passed away. As a result it has been a difficult time for my mom, but every day those treasured portraits are a comfort to my mom and they are helping her remember. None of us could ever have imagined the incredible and life-changing importance of my parent's and grandparent's commitment to documenting and preserving the passage of time through printed wall art and family albums.

The sad truth is we are currently living in an age where our children and grandchildren are the most photographed generation in history, yet those images are living and dying on hard drives every single day. It isn't a matter of how those images and memories will be lost, but when. Printed portraits are becoming a way of the past and this is such a tragedy. As a full-service, boutique photographer I have made it my personal mission to help as many families as possible by helping them preserve those precious, once-in-a-lifetime memories by capturing and creating heirloom, fine art portraits families will treasure every single day and pass on to their children and children's children.
